EDUCATION OVERSIGHT BOARD MEETING MINUTES October 13, 2004 - 10:00 A.M. Casa Fina International Board Room 1718 South Cheyenne Avenue Tulsa, OK 74119 BOARD MEMBERS PRESENT: Don McCorkell, Kenneth Bridges, Gerald Dickerson, Ron Dryden, Susan Field, Patrick Gilmore and Sen. Penny Williams BOARD MEMBERS ABSENT: Rep. Barbara Staggs OTHER REGULAR ATTENDEES: Office of Accountability Staff: Robert Buswell, Matt Hesser and Jerry Hsieh VISITORS: Kyle Dahlem, Terry Davidson, Grant Hall, Debra Hull, Ray Pearcey, Jabar Shumate, and Jean Warner Call to Order and Roll Call: Mr. McCorkell called the meeting to order at 10:12 a.m. and declared a quorum present. Discussion of Challenges Facing Common Education in Oklahoma: Mr. McCorkell gave a quick overview of the process that would be used to facilitate discussion. The attendees were then broken into three groups. Each group adjourned to a smaller meeting room and was to explore as many issues facing education in Oklahoma as possible. Working Lunch: Lunch was provided courtesy of Mr. McCorkell, and members and guests spoke leisurely while eating. Discussion of Challenges Facing Common Education in Oklahoma: After lunch, the three groups reconvened in the Casa Fina International Board Room to share the topics that had arisen in the small groups. Lively discussion over the issues continued until late in the afternoon.
